Venus and Adonis

Players and Singers’ Venus and Adonis is a gender-playful production of the earliest surviving British opera. This ground-breaking work was composed in 1683 by John Blow, with Anne Kingsmill as librettist. The opera is rarely performed today, and in keeping with an exploration of unfamiliar territory, our staging features both soloists and chorus members swapping genders.
